Watch: Line Marking Robot Creates a Perfect Soccer Field

Watch a drone's-eye view of the Intelligent One autonomous field marking robot create the perfect soccer field with precision of +/- 2 cm.

I’ve played sports my entire life, yet one thing I’ve never spent a second thinking about are the field marks painted on soccer and football fields that mark the sidelines, the penalty box, the circle in the center of the field, etc. The groundsmen who mark these lines need to be accurate. It also takes an incredible amount of time.

Now there’s a robot to do this job.

Intelligent One is being positioned as the first automatic robot for line marking sport fields. The company, which is taking pre-orders with hopes of shipping in November 2015, uses GPS technology to achieve precision of +/- 2 cm. The robot is powered by a lithium ion battery and can complete one soccer field in 30 minutes - it can complete 7-8 soccer fields per charge.

Here’s the cool part: the robot can be customized to meet the needs of your field and it’s all controllable via tablet. The company’s pitch is that “every line made is money saved, since time, paint and overall resource consumption are significantly reduced. Intelligent One allows groundsmen to do other tasks while precision is increased and the fields are line marked without supervision.”

Whether you believe in the application of this autonomous robot or not, check out the drones-eye view of it in action in the video at the top of the page. Pretty slick how it moves and draws with such precision.

This was so cool to watch! I was amazed at how precise it drew the lines. Would this technology work for marking lines on roads or parking lots too? It seems like it would be a good way to get the job done fast and in a safe manner. Thanks for sharing this! http://www.a1roadlines.com.au/productsandservices/linemarkingproducts
