Flirtey is developing drone delivery services for various markets, including medical, retail, small business and more. Flirtey’s mission is to save lives and change lifestyles by making delivery instant.
Flirtey, based in Reno, Nevada, completed the first FAA-approved drone delivery in the United States on July 17, 2015 when its six-rotor drone delivered medical supplies from an airfield to a medical clinic in Wise County, Virginia. The Flirtey delivery drone flew three 3-minute flights and delivered 10 pounds of medicine to the clinic, showing the potential for using drones to deliver goods to remote areas. It used a custom, 3D-printed tether to lower the medicine to the ground.
Flirtey partnered with 7-Eleven for the first FAA-approved home drone delivery. The Flirtey drone
autonomously delivered Slurpees, a chicken sandwich, donuts, hot coffee and candy to the home of the family who placed the order.
Flirtey said its historic drone deliveries to date "have been stepping stones to store-to-home drone delivery." Flirtey is currently in discussions with retailers and food companies about delivery to people's homes, and CEO Matt Sweeny said store-to-home drone deliveries will start sooner than most think.
Flirtey will conduct the first ship-to-shore drone delivery in the US on June 23 in Cape May, New Jersey, carrying medical samples between an on-shore medical relief camp and a test facility on a vessel stationed off the coast.
